Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 30, 2026
Summary of Key Principles
UpperSearch is a Windows desktop application. Your search history, saved keywords, SERP snapshots, backlink records, and CSV exports remain stored locally on your computer. When you run live research, UpperSearch connects to your configured third-party data providers (such as DataForSEO) to retrieve current search engine data. We do not sell your personal data or commercial search history.
1. Introduction & Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how UpperSearch ("we," "our," or "us") handles information in connection with the UpperSearch website located at uppersearch.io and the UpperSearch desktop software application for 64-bit Windows systems (collectively, the "Service").
By accessing uppersearch.io or downloading and running the UpperSearch software, you acknowledge the data handling practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in distinct operational contexts: website interactions, customer support communications, and local desktop software execution.
A. Information You Voluntarily Provide
When you purchase a license, register your email, or contact support, we collect the details you provide, including your name, email address, order identifiers, and customer service correspondence.
B. Desktop Research & Workstation Storage
The UpperSearch desktop program creates and maintains a local database on your Windows workstation. Your search queries, saved keyword lists, rank tracking snapshots, competitor domains, backlink lists, publisher network graphs, and exported CSV files remain on your local computer in folders you designate.
C. Provider Credentials
To access live search intelligence, you may enter API credentials for supported external services (such as DataForSEO or Host.io). These credentials are saved locally on your Windows computer and protected using Windows' built-in Data Protection API (DPAPI). They are never transmitted to UpperSearch servers.
3. How We Use Information
We use information collected through our website and customer communications solely for legitimate operational purposes:
- To issue, validate, and manage software license keys.
- To process customer service inquiries, refund requests, and technical assistance.
- To maintain the integrity, security, and functionality of our web services.
- To notify you about critical product updates, security advisories, or commercial terms.
We do not sell, rent, monetize, or broker your personal information or search research to data brokers or advertising networks.
4. Third-Party Services & Live Provider Requests
UpperSearch connects directly to external data providers to retrieve fresh search intelligence on demand:
- DataForSEO: Used for supported live SEO research, SERP rank tracking, keyword metrics, and backlink records. When you execute an active live query, necessary search parameters (target keyword, domain, location code, language) and your DataForSEO credentials are sent directly to DataForSEO's API endpoints.
- Host.io: Only accessed if you configure a Host.io API key and run Reverse AdSense domain lookups.
- Publisher Network Discovery: Groups public ads.txt, sellers.json, and advertising seller records included with UpperSearch.
Third-party providers process your live API calls under their respective terms and privacy policies. Data provider billing is handled directly between you and the provider; UpperSearch does not markup or broker these fees.
6. Data Security
We apply technical and procedural controls designed to safeguard your information:
- Encrypted Storage: Sensitive API keys entered into the UpperSearch desktop interface are encrypted locally using Windows built-in cryptographic mechanisms (DPAPI).
- Secure Transport: All interactions with uppersearch.io and external data provider APIs are conducted over industry-standard Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS).
- Local Isolation: Your saved competitor dossiers and research databases reside in your local Windows user directory, isolated from other users on different machines.
7. Data Retention
Because research data is stored locally on your machine, you control how long it is retained. You can delete individual research records, export CSV files, or delete your local database at any time.
We retain purchase records, license validation records, and customer service correspondence only for as long as required to fulfill our contractual obligations, provide ongoing software updates, resolve disputes, and comply with tax and statutory record-keeping requirements.
8. Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have legal rights regarding personal information UpperSearch holds about you, such as:
- Requesting confirmation of whether UpperSearch holds personal information about you.
- Requesting appropriate access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information UpperSearch holds about you (such as your purchase email or support correspondence).
- Objecting to or requesting restrictions on specific data processing activities where applicable by law.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact contact@uppersearch.io. We will review and respond to your request in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
9. Policy Updates
We may revise this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our software, data provider integrations, or regulatory obligations. When changes are made, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
